Graham Fraser Memorial Fellowship

The Graham Fraser Memorial Fellowship was established in 1997 in memory of the late husband of Dr Patricia Fraser by the Trustees of the Graham Fraser Foundation in order to promote research to further the understanding, management and alleviation of profound deafness.

The Fellowship is a six month travelling Fellowship in Otology awarded annually to a Specialist Registrar on a recognised UK or Republic of Ireland training programme. Overseas applicants are not eligible. Currently, the Fellows work from mid-January to mid-July with Professor William Gibson in the University of Sydney, where in addition to otological research they have an opportunity to develop their operative skills in otology and cochlear implantation.

The Fellowship is publicised about eighteen months before its commencement by a mailing to all members of ENT.UK (BAO-HNS) and the Association of Otolaryngologists in Training. Advertisements are also placed in the September issues of the JLO and ENT News. Applicants should send a 500 word abstract indicating their interest in the subject together with their CV and the names of two referees to
The Graham Fraser Foundation c/o Dr P Fraser
7 Somerset Gardens
Highgate
London N6 5EQ
and by email to p.fraser@bosinternet.com

The closing date for the Fellowship starting January 2007 is 31 October 2005. The interviews are held in late November and the successful applicant appointed more than a year in advance to allow time for the necessary arrangements for working in Australia to be made.

The Foundation pays the basic salary that the Fellow would have received if working in the UK. The Foundation also pays the employer’s contribution to Superannuation and National Insurance, some necessary professional expenses incurred by the Fellow and the economy class return airfare to Sydney for the Fellow and family. Fellows are required to provide a report on their Fellowship within three months of their return. Since 2002 these reports have been posted on the Foundation’s website for the benefit of future applicants.

You can see the names of recent recipients of the Fellowship and their publications on the
Graham Fraser Foundation website
