The TWJ Foundation

The grants provided by the TWJ Foundation are rewarded for the support of otology and the relief of deafness. The grants are for supporting advanced postgraduate education in the specialty. The range of grants on offer include:

Major Overseas Travel Fellowships

Two or three are awarded each year in open competition after advertisement to senior registrars in otolaryngology posts approved for higher surgical training. Each allows the holder to spend 6 to 12 months working in a designated centre in North America. The grants are advertised in the Journal of Laryngology and Otology about six months before the starting date. Each summer the senior consultants are notified by letter of the probable fellowships for the ensuing 12 months.

Michael Cook Tinnitus Fellowships

These are sponsored by a special fund and either pay for a visit by a consultant and their therapist to North America for about two weeks to study the management of tinnitus or permit a therapist to spend a week visiting an established tinnitus clinic in the UK.

Sundry grants

When funds are available, it may be possible to support senior registrars making European overseas visits of a few weeks. These are not advertised but are made in response to individual applications.
