Ethicon Foundation Fund

The Ethicon Foundation Fund has been established by Ethicon Limited, and promotes international goodwill in surgery by providing financial assistance to Fellows who are travelling abroad for research or training purposes. Applicants should be sufficiently advanced in their training to benefit from such an experience or be within one year of their appointment as Consultant, and Fellows/Members of The Royal College of Surgeons of England. The fund will make a contribution towards travel expenses.

Applications are adjudicated upon by the Advisory Board which meets twice yearly. The Board favours applications which demonstrate that applicants are using their initiative to obtain experience above and beyond that which they would derive from routine exchange or secondment to an overseas centre. Occasionally, grants are made to senior applicants visiting an overseas centre to teach rather than learn. In general, the Board does not favour grants to enable an applicant to attend a meeting or conference overseas, neither does it favour grants to support the travel of an applicant's family. As a condition of the award, successful candidates will be required to submit a report within three months of their return from their visit.

Application forms can be downloaded at College website
To apply send 10 copies of completed application form; a letter of support from the Head of Department, or Consultant, under whom the applicant is currently working; and a letter of support from another, independent, referee. All expenses should be given in sterling.

Information and application forms can be obtained from:
