“Many thanks for kindly awarding this prestigious fellowship. I aim to outline below some of the progress, and peer-review successes of the project to date.”
As a brief overview we are progressing through background literature searching and systematic review. The following two projects are in progress at varying levels:
- What is Virtual Reality – A linguistic review – Submitted to Health Technology and Policy Journal. This project aims to de-mystify medical literature definitions of the term ‘Virtual Reality’ as it has been identified as a barrier to implementation and cause of reporting error in technology enhanced learning literature.
- VR Simulation in Emergency Medical Simulation Training: A Systematic Review. PROSPERO REGISTRATION LINK - https://www.crd.york.ac.uk/prospero/display_record.php?RecordID=205636
This study aims to look for the baseline literature around emergency algorithmic simulation skills training. This is in progress at the data extraction stage.
In order for appropriate implementation and design of the proposed NTSP paediatric blocked tracheostomy simulation we are performing data collection on the following project.
- Understanding, Experience, and Attitudes Towards Extended Reality (XR)
- Data collection ongoing 70/200 participants recruited
- NIHR portfolio adopted study
Lastly the development of the novel VR simulation skills trainer has begun. It will be in a state ready for alpha testing in approximately 3 months at which point useability and validatory trials will commence.
