President’s Statement

My Mission

As President of the British Rhinological Society, my mission is clear: to protect patient access to essential nasal surgery, to support the development of tertiary rhinology and skull base services, to champion and mentor the next generation of rhinologists, and to strengthen our community through collaboration, research, and global fellowship. Together, we will ensure rhinology continues to thrive and deliver the very best care for patients everywhere.

Full Statement

It is both a privilege and a humbling honour to serve as President of the British Rhinological Society. My own journey in rhinology has been shaped by inspiring teachers, supportive colleagues, and the challenges and rewards of caring for patients. As I take on this role, I am reminded that our purpose is not simply to advance a specialty, but to make a real difference in the lives of those who depend on us.

The BRS is a community built on collaboration, curiosity, and compassion. Together, we champion the best of British rhinology, while also engaging with colleagues around the world to share expertise and learn from one another. I have seen first-hand how mentoring and international fellowship opportunities can transform careers and, in turn, patient care — whether here in the UK or in settings where resources are limited.

In the year ahead, I am particularly committed to:

  • Protecting patient access to functional nasal surgery, ensuring these essential procedures are recognised for their health benefits and not mistakenly labelled as cosmetic.
  • Supporting and mentoring the next generation of rhinologists through education, training, and hands-on opportunities.
  • Supporting tertiary rhinology and skull base services to flourish, ensuring patients benefit from comprehensive, highly specialised care.
  • Strengthening global links, especially through fellowship and mentorship programmes that help colleagues in resource-limited settings develop services for their communities.
  • Promoting research and innovation, so that our patients benefit from the very best evidence-based treatments.

This is an exciting time for our specialty, but also one that brings challenges. With the collective energy and expertise of our members, I am confident that we can continue to grow, inspire, and advocate for the highest standards of care in rhinology
