Helen Cocks is Clinical Director for Head and Neck and a Consultant Head and Neck and Endocrine Surgeon at South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Trust. She is heavily involved in education as an educational and clinical supervisor. She has been an SAC liaison member and curriculum lead during the introduction of the new curriculum. and she is an experienced intercollegiate examiner. She has published a number of papers and book chapters. She has been PI for a number of portfolio studies, currently PATHOS and LARCH. She successfully completed the Lady Estelle Wolfson Emerging Leaders Fellowship at the RCS Eng in 2017 and is the President of ENT UK.

Taranjit Singh Tatla (Taran Tatla) graduated with first class Intercalated BSc in Anatomy (1994) and MB,BS (1996) from University College London, before rapid progress through basic and higher surgical training incorporating posts at many of the renowned London teaching hospitals. FRCS (ORL-HNS) was awarded from the Royal College of Surgeons in England (2006) and he has been a full-time NHS consultant at London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust since 2008, specialising in ENT surgery with Thyroid, Head and Neck (H&N) and Laryngology sub-interests. In 2018 he completed his PhD collaborating with the Hamlyn Centre for Robotics (Imperial College London), and Applied Optics Group (University of Kent), developing a novel multimodal optical imaging platform for clinical application. This forms the basis of his ongoing translational research activities. Taran continues to manage a wide variety of patients, contributing as a core member to the local H&N Cancer and Thyroid Cancer MDTs (Chair for the latter), providing community, secondary and tertiary care services for NW London. Clinical interests include disease screening, minimally invasive endoscopic surgery and LASERS for diagnostics and therapies, complex swallow and tracheostomy care, as well as evolving digitally integrated service delivery models incorporating tele-training and telemedicine.

His clinical work has been complimented by research, training and leadership roles that have provided unique interface and collaboration between health care professionals (HCPs), clinical academia, Med-Tech and Pharma partners from across industries. He has delivered various multidisciplinary postgraduate courses nationally since 2004, core learning themes including optimised team working, linked learning and research between HCPs and engineers from University of Kent (Canterbury), University College and Imperial College London. In 2015 he set up the celebratory Rowena Ryan Trainees and Trainers annual awards, now incorporated into the ENT UK Foundation, and include an international focus.

Taran has served as the ENT Lead for the NIHR NW London Clinical Research Network (2012 – 2024), Training Programme Director for ENT Higher Surgical Training (North Thames, 2018 - 2024), elected council member of the British Laryngological Association (2019 to date), Honorary Secretary for ENT UK (2020 - 2022) and founder committee member of the ENT UK Foundation (2021 – 2024).

Nara Orban was appointed as Consultant ENT Surgeon at St Bartholomew's and The Royal London Hospitals in 2017.  She studied medicine and Imperial College, Charing Cross Hospital and trained in both Oxford at the John Radcliffe Hospitals, as well as London including at Great Ormond Street Children's Hospital, the Royal National Throat, Nose and Ear Hospital and had worked at the Airway Fellow at Charing Cross.

Her interests are focused on airway and voice disorders as well as disorders of the nose and sinuses, in both adults and children.  She is dedicated to surgical education teaching, marking and supporting the Masters in Surgical Education course at Imperial College and is the Royal College of Surgeons Tutor for Barts Health.

Miss Paramita Baruah – Honorary Secretary-elect

Paramita Baruah is a substantive Consultant ENT surgeon with an established adult and paediatric general and Otology practice at the University Hospitals of Leicester since 2018. She completed higher surgical training in ENT in the West Midlands Deanery and an implant and lateral skull base fellowship in Birmingham, UK. She has strong interest in research and teaching, both at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. She undertakes regular medical student teaching and serves on the ARCP panel for ENT training in East Midlands Deanery. She has a strong interest in research and undertook a PhD in Immunology in Milan, Italy and a postdoctoral fellowship at Imperial College London. She is an Honorary Senior Clinical Research fellow with the University of Birmingham with ongoing research on immune responses in vestibular schwannoma, head and neck paraganglioma, necrotising otitis externa, cholesteatoma and Meniere’s disease.

After obtaining a law degree in London, Todd Kanzara studied medicine at Newcastle University. He completed his early surgical training in southeast England and higher surgical training in northwest England. In 2021, Todd Kanzara was appointed a substantive NHS ENT Consultant at the Countess of Chester Hospital. His main clinical interests are Laryngology, Thyroid, and Parathyroid Surgery, alongside a general ENT practice in which he cares for adults and children. Following his ENT training, he furthered his expertise in voice disorders at the Voice Study Centre and the University of Wales Trinity Saint David, earning a Postgraduate Certificate in Voice Pedagogy with distinction. He maintains a strong interest in law and keeps abreast of legal developments relevant to surgery and ENT.

Sam is a founding member of the British Laryngology Association and served on the council since 2013. He is a Laryngologist, full-time Consultant Surgeon, and a Reader (hon) at the University of Dundee Medical School & Ninewells Hospital NHS Scotland. He is the lead clinician for Laryngology & voice, swallowing disorders (Transnasal Oesophagoscopy/Endoscopy) and difficult airway service at this centre. He is leading the ENT steering group for setting up the training and practicing standards for Transnasal Endoscopy/ Oesophagoscopy.

Sam graduated in Medicine from the University of Nottingham Medical School after having substantial training in Maxillofacial surgery and obtaining Fellowship of the Faculty of Dental Surgery of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow. Sam Majumdar is passionate about teaching and training. He is an internationally acclaimed speaker, teacher, and trainer.

Sam is a Fellow of the Scottish Patients Safety Programme delivered by the Health Improvement Scotland. He was also the Deputy Lead for Scotland for Quality Improvement (Faculty of Medical Leadership and Management). Sam has served as a Regional Surgical Advisor for the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. He now stands in for the RCS Edinburgh on the Intercollegiate Board Examiners for the FRCS (ORL-HNS) examination. Sam has designed, developed and delivered many acclaimed Surgical Courses and served on others as faculty, nationally and internationally. He is a course director at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.

Sam has published widely in the medical literature and peer reviewed journals; presented the national and international academic and given invited & key notes speeches. Sam Majumdar is a Co-Editor of the 10th Edition of the Current Practice in Otolaryngology, seminal textbook. He has published widely in the medical literature on all aspects of ENT surgery and is co-author of chapters on seminal textbooks.
