The ENT UK National ENT Trauma Course will take place face to face on Friday 8 November 2024. A further half day of private study will be required for pre-requisite learning which can be taken at the candidate's convenience (this prerequisite learning is mandatory to complete the course).
About
University Hospital Birmingham (UHB) are pleased to host for one of the inaugural national head and neck trauma courses in conjunction with ENT UK. The course, originally designed and developed in the Oxford deanery, has been approved by the SAC as ATLS-equivalent for ENT trainees to meet their CCT requirements. The course faculty in made up for multidisciplinary consultants with many years of experience working in a major trauma centre receiving complex adult trauma including the UK’s military repatriations.
The course will be delivered in a hybrid format, with online interactive pre-learning to be followed by a single-day practical course. The face-to-face session will run through key technical skills in trauma management such as:
- Primary and secondary survey
- Trauma airway management and front of neck airway
- Chest drain insertion
- Interventional radiology
- Maxillofacial and laryngeal plating
- Lateral canthotomy
The afternoon will focus of team-based training to develop non-technical skills vital in the management of complex head and neck trauma scenarios.
As per the SAC directive, the course is only currently available to trainees ST6 and above and will prioritise places to those in ST7 and ST8 who need to complete a trauma course to meet CCT requirements. As such, the course will be made available to different learner groups in a staggering manner, but within these places will be filled on a first come first, serve basis.

Registration is now open. The £500 fee is inclusive of VAT and includes refreshments, tea/coffee and lunch for the duration of the course.We will endeavour to accommodate dietary requirements as far as possible.

The venue is walking distance from the University railway station, which has direct connections to Cardiff, Nottingham and Birmingham New Street (with onward connection to the rest of the country). Via rail, Birmingham International airport is accessible in less than 30mins. There is hospital parking close to the education centre with close road links to the M5 and M6 for onward travel.
